"The audience laughed a lot
and gave a standing ovation at the end; the first one I've seen this summer."
-The New York Times
The BAMA Theatre Company began as an ensemble of eight University of Alabama graduate students in residence at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, one of the nation’s most prestigious regional theatres (and among the 10 largest Shakespeare festivals in the world). This unique group of young artists from around the country came to train and work together in historic Montgomery, Alabama, and formed an exceptionally intimate artistic relationship.
Their first production of A Midsummer Night's Dream was developed as a 2007 Acting Lab project during the second year of graduate school. BTC's East Coast debut was made in August of 2009 at the 13th Annual International Fringe Festival in New York City and received rave reviews and attention from the likes of The Wall Street Journal, Time Out New York, NYTheatre, and The New York Times.
From there, the company grew to include more alumni from the ASF/MFA program and added more shows to the trunk. In addition to our productions, the company taught workshops, and our band, The Motley Coats, performed a rooftop concert at South Street Seaport.
After several years of success in New York City, the company disbanded and company members found new beginnings all around the world.
