A Midsummer

Night's Dream

Our premiere and most requested production.

Debuted at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival in 2007 and reimagined several times in various venues in the New York area. 8 actors and an outlined playing space  that creates a precise shift from "in" the scene and "out" of the scene. The actors never leave the stage and the fun never stops!

"Run, do not walk, to BAMA Theatre’s Midsummer Night’s Dream...These nimble actors speak “Shakespearian” so naturally and fluently that you’ll forget the lines were written in the 16th-century. I’ve seen a lot of productions of this play—but none that makes the complicated plot so crystal clear, and none with such a sense of fun." -Lian Farrar of the State Theatre in New Jersey

As You Like It

Our production of As You Like It embraced our bluesy, Southern roots. One of Shakespeare's most musical plays, our company illuminates the dichotomy of the constrictive, repressive city and the care-free, wild Forest of Arden. With 8 actors and 22 roles, two worlds, two Dukes, hidden identities and the journey to true love, our unique take on Shakespeare's famous pastoral comedy. will keep you guessing!

Named one of The Wall Street Journal's "Five Favorite Arts Encounters of the Summer"!

"Amid over-produced, over-conceived and over-long interpretations of Shakespeare's plays, this production of "As You Like It" stands out for its simplicity and clarity. The no-frills approach allows the stellar acting to shine." - The Wall Street Journal

Hamlet

The first tragedy in our trunk, we took on the Melancholy Dane and his struggle with vengeance, justice, love, and purpose. Tackling a work that has been called the "greatest ever written", we aimed to remove the play from its pedestal and embrace the power of telling the story simply.  With one trunk and a few flashlights, we create a fast-paced, heartbreaking, and even funny take on a renowned classic that will have you on the edge of your seat!

"Not bogged down by excessive and over-thought ideas/costumes/sets, their storytelling is precise. The story is the thing." - NYTheatre

Twelfth Night

With our production of Twelfth Night, we move at a break-neck pace through a wacky world of servants and masters, twins and disguises, clowns and fools, all tied together with our trusty trunk, two guitars, and 8 actors creating "two households, both alike" in their confusion and ado. Lots of laughs, catches, stratagems, and songs keep the story rolling all the way to its surprising conclusion.

"After a feast of the Bard's luscious language, a high school student said at the talk-back after the show, 'It didn't even sound like Shakespeare!' We in the audience all laughed with agreement. BAMA Theatre Company's Twelfth Night is that rarest thing: even if you're not into Shakespeare, you will love it; if Shakespeare's dialogues have been daunting to you, this is the show to get you in. How can they do the Bard of Avon more than justice while pulling in the modern audience young and old? The actors literally talk to you with their whole body: their animated facial expressions, their high-impact choreography, their razor-sharp comic timing that marries the word to the deed, and their bursting energy that practically lights up the entire stage." - NYTheatre
